dbWeb 1.1 Overview


Database publishing on the World Wide Web has never been easier. dbWeb is a high performance gateway between ODBC data sources and the Microsoft Internet Information Server that makes it possible to deploy information across your organization without specialized client software. Using familiar hypertext-style navigation, your users can "mine" for information with little or no training using their favorite Web browsing tools.


Overview

dbWeb provides database connectivity for the Microsoft Internet Information Server running under Microsoft Windows NT. Using dbWeb you can provide real time access to Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) data sources through Web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. dbWeb provides full insert/update/delete capabilities as well as query-by-example record selection for dynamic SQL and stored procedures. Records are returned in tabular, detail or custom forms and can optionally contain "Automatic Links" that allow hypertext-style navigation within a data source. Potential applications include:

dbWeb is a high performance Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI) application implemented as a 32-bit multithreaded Windows NT service. Administrative tools for managing database schemas, forms and data sources are included.
