dbWeb 1.1 Overview
Database publishing on the World Wide Web has never been easier.
dbWeb is
a high performance gateway between ODBC data sources and the
Microsoft Internet Information Server that makes it possible to deploy
information across your organization without specialized client software.
Using familiar hypertext-style navigation, your users can "mine"
for information with little or no training using their favorite Web browsing tools.
Overview
dbWeb provides database connectivity for the Microsoft Internet Information Server running under Microsoft Windows NT. Using dbWeb you can provide real time access to Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)
data sources through Web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. dbWeb provides full
insert/update/delete capabilities as well as query-by-example record selection
for dynamic SQL and stored procedures. Records are returned in tabular, detail or custom forms
and can optionally contain "Automatic Links" that allow hypertext-style navigation within a data source. Potential applications include:
- Data Warehousing
- Executive Information Systems
- Product Catalogs
- Real-Estate Listings
- Technical Support Databases
- Database Publishing
dbWeb is a high performance Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI) application implemented as a 32-bit multithreaded Windows NT service.
Administrative tools for managing database schemas, forms and data sources are included.
Highlights
- High Performance - 32-bit multithreaded ISAPI, client-server design eliminates bottlenecks common to CGI applications.
- Open - uses 32-bit ODBC to provide access to a wide variety of database products such as Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, and Oracle.
- Automatic Links - Uses familiar hypertext-style navigation to "mine" for information in your databases.
- Simple - Provides graphical administration tools for setup and maintenance. Knowledge of HTML, CGI and ISAPI programming is not required.
- Wizards - Simplifies the publishing of database information.
